Day 3: Restrictions, Shutdown cripple normal life in Valley, Kishtwar

Srinagar: Law enforcing authorities Tuesday continued restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and other areas of Kashmir valley keeping in view the extension in the call for shutdown till Tuesday by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) . Kishtwar areas of Jammu province also observed shutdown to show solidarity on recent killings in Srinagar and Shopian with the people of Kashmir valley
Police said restrictions would remain in force in Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud.
All educational institutions, including universities, colleges and schools were closed for the second consecutive day. Train services also remained suspended for the second day in running.
As already reported Joint Resistance Leadership Monday evening asked people to continue shutdown on Tuesday to protest against the killings of 10 people, including five civilians and five militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian district last Sunday.
Top Hizb ul Mujahideen commander, Sadam Paddar and an Assistant Professor of Kashmir University, Dr Muhammad Rafi Bhat, were among the militants killed in the gun battle with the forces in Badigam village of Shopian district.
Separatist leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq continue to remain under house detention JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik continues to remain under preventive detention.
Exams scheduled for Tuesday were postponed. Train services between Baramulla and Banhal were also suspended.
Mobile Internet continues to remain suspended in the valley, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla and Budgam districts.
Shops, public transport and other businesses establishments were shut for the third consecutive day in Srinagar city and all other district headquarters.
Meanwhile reports said that muslims in Kishtwar district of Jammu province also observed a complete shutdown to protest against the killing of civilians in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The call for the strike was issued by the Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed over the killing of five civilians in forces’ action on protesters near a gunfight site in Badigam village on Sunday.
Majority of business establishments owned by the Muslims remained closed across the district while public transport was largely off the roads.However, work in government offices and banks remained unaffected due to the strike.
