Srinagar/April,11: Educational institutions will remain closed accross Kashmir exceptibg some areas of Ganderbal district in Central Kashmir and some parts of Kupwara and Bandipora in North Kashmir, officials said.

They said that the decision to close down the institutions has been taken as a “precautionary measure” to prevent student protests over the killings.

The Kashmir University (KU) administration has also decided to suspend the class work on Thursday while as examinations scheduled for Thursday and Friday has been postponed as well.

“Fresh dates for the postponed papers will be announced later separately,” said a varsity official.

The district administration Kupwara has decided to close down all the educational institutions in Kupwara district for students. “The class work in all schools and colleges of district except Machill, Keran and Karnah will remain suspended as a precautionary measure,” said the deputy commissioner Kupwara.

All the educational institutions will remain closed in Bandipora (except Gurez sub-division), Shopian, Pulwama and Srinagar district as well, officials said.

However, in wake of announcement of shutdown call by joint resistance leadership (JRL) announced against civilian killings, the administration in various districts didn’t make any official announcement for closing the educational institutions.

“Already, shutdown call has been announced and it is presumed that schools and colleges will remain closed. So we don’t need to make official announcement for it,” said some of the officials.

However, the district administration in Ganderbal said that all the educational institutions will remain open in the district on Thursday.

Authorities at the Islamic University of Science and Technology have also decided to suspend the class work on Thursday while as exams have been postponed as well.

“The class work will remain suspended on Thursday and fresh dates for deferred exams will be issued later, separately,” a spokesman of the varsity said.
