Srinagar: National Conference president, member parliament and three time former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah here on Wednesday lambasted the central government for its continuing silence over continuing cycle of killings of youth and hard posturing over dialogue with Pakistan.
Talking to reporters in Kangan where a youth was killed in forces action two days back, Abdullah said “without talking to Pakistan Kashmir issue can’t be resolved and the storm that has hit Kashmir today requires immediate measures for resolution of Kashmir issue. People everywhere in Kashmir are ready to offer their lives and continuing cycle of violence can’t be stopped till the central government initiates a dialogue with Pakistan”.
Welcoming the Supreme Court’s observations on Article 370, Abdullah said “Delhi must stop tinkering with the special status enjoyed by the state and instead take measures for restoring the eroded special status particularly the autonomy in full to allow people of Kashmir to live with dignity.”
When asked that PDP also stresses for dialogue with Pakistan but its ally BJP running the government in the centre is opposed to dialogue with Pakistan, Dr Farooq said “for the last four years we have been hearing all about resumption of dialogue with Pakistan but where is the dialogue?. If Chief Minister would have been serious about her demand for dialogue with Pakistan she would have chooses to walkout of the alliance then hearing the sermons of Delhi on no dialogue with Pakistan”.
Asking Delhi to get back to the root causes of the Kashmir issue, Dr Farooq said “wars won’t solve the Kashmir crisis. Four wars have been fought but what did India and Pakistan get from the wars. Wars will bring devastation and destruction. We are seeing in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and other conflict zones”.
Condemning the media hype over the worsening situation in Kashmir, Abdullah said “propaganda unleashed by national media against Kashmir through fake reports over alleged attacks on tourists must stop. Kashmiris are known for their hospitality and no force on earth can snatch the beauty of Kashmir which the God has given to it”.
