As already reported Sameer Ahmad Dar from the Department of Earth Sciences went missing on 19th March after leaving his Pulwama residence for the university.
The class work in various departments was disrupted Thursday as the students left their department and assembled at the lawn of Humanities department.
Reports said the students marched in protest and demanded the whereabouts of Sameer.
The protesting students staged a sit-in outside the vice-chancellor’s secretariat to press for their demand.
Pertinently, Vice-chancellor professor Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi on Wednesday talked to the protesting students and expressed concern over the disappearance of Sameer.
Prof. Andrabi also informed the students that KU administration was in continuous touch with the police.
The varsity authorities have already written to the DGP on March 24, requesting him to have the whereabouts of the student ascertained at an earliest. The offices of the Chancellor and the Pro-Chancellor have also been informed about the case.
The officials have apprehensions that continuous student protests should not turn into a law and order problem for the varsity.
“Till now students are protesting inside campus but they might attempt to take protest outside which will become problematic for students as well and administration,” said an official
Meanwhile Vice chancellor of Kashmir University Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi on Thursday urgef the Jammu & Kashmir Government to proactively help the university to trace the whereabouts of missing student Sameer Ahmad of the Earth Sciences department.
Sameer went missing on 19 March after leaving his Pulwama residence for the university.
In a statement issued here, the varsity spokesperson said that Prof Andrabi once again talked with the protesting students and assured them that the varsity is in touch with the police to ascertain student’s whereabouts.
“The Vice Chancellor once again urged the students to maintain clam and assured that the University is regularly in touch with the police authorities to ascertain the student’s whereabouts,” the spokesperson said.
He said that the Vice Chancellor also assured the students that “as and when any clue about the student is obtained, the same shall be shared with them.”
“The University reiterates its appeal to the agitating students to maintain peaceful atmosphere on the campus, and also impressed upon the state government’s law enforcing authorities to proactively help trace the student’s whereabouts,” he added.
