Jammu: Opposition National Conference legislator and MLA Home-Shalibugh Abdul Majid Larmi on Thursday accused the state government of ‘worsening peaceful situation’ by establishing army camps in every village, even as he said that government is faking normalcy to conduct Panchayat elections in February.
Larmi was speaking about Shamshipora village in south Kashmir, where villagers protested against authorities’ move of establishing an army camp in the village.
“I have got a phone call from Shamshipora that security forces there are occupying land in the village. They wanted to establish camp over there. The people held protests against it. They were lathi charged. I posed a question to honorable revenue minister,” said Larmi, adding that he has asked them to stop setting of the army camp.
Larmi said that there is no need to establish camp in the area as there is already a military installation someone and a half kilometer from the spot. “They want to establish camp at every kilometer,” he said.
While accusing the government of ‘faking’ normalcy to conduct Panchayat elections, Larmi said that there is no militancy in the area and people are forced to come on roads.
“…people have come on roads. Do you have to occupy land of people in every village. I want an answer from the government. Why are they doing it in Home-Shalibugh (constituency). Shamsipora is a peaceful area. There is no militancy there. There is militancy in Kulgam side. This is Anantnag side and there is only difference of two kilometers between the two places,” he said.
