Srinagar: District Magistrate Srinagar on Friday said that, restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC will remain in force under the jurisdictions of Police Stations Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar, Safakadal, and partially in Kralkhud and Maisuma in district Srinagar on January 13 (Saturday) as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
The restrictions shall not be applicable to government employees, universities, essential services like banks or those taking or invigilating examinations
The authorities have placed Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Dukhtaran e Millat (DeM) Chairperson Asiya Andrabi under house arrest on Friday.
Mirwaiz, allowed to address the Friday gathering at the historic Jamia Masjid after several weeks of house detention on Friday was again placed under house arrest, a spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference (M) said.
According to DeM press secretary, Sofi Fehmeeda, a large contingent of police surrounded the residence of Andrabi around 8 pm Friday and placed her under house detention. Condemning the detention, Fehmeeda dubbed it as the “frustration” of the authorities.
She said that such acts, however, won’t deter the party chairperson or the party cadres from pursuing the struggle for freedom.
Pertinently, Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for shutdown against civilian killings Friday.
