Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik on Saturday paid tributes to Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) and urged people to follow the footsteps of the revered saint.
Mirwaiz in a statement issued to GNS said the Sheikh (RA) had dedicated his life for Islam and attracted people toward the peaceful religion by spreading the true message of Islam and by playing the role of a social reformer.
He said the saint laid stress on humanity, kindness, brotherhood and social service, for which the present generation of Muslims were indebted to him.
“Celebrating the Urs would only be meaningful when Muslims follow his religious mission,” Hurriyat Chairman said, adding, “Kashmiri Muslims, like the great spiritual saint, needed to believe in the oneness of the Almighty Allah and rededicate themselves for the betterment of Islam and Ummah and take stock of their lives.”
Mirwaiz urged the people of Kashmir particularly the Muslim youth, parents and family heads to come forward and shoulder responsibilities in shaping the society in accordance with Islamic teachings and values.
He appealed them for “helping cleanse the Kashmiri society of social evils and un-Islamic practices”.
In a statement to GNS, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik while addressing people at at Buqa Aaliyah Gousia Sarai Bala, Srinagar said, “We all need to follow the teachings of our revered ancestors, saints and spiritual leaders in letter and spirit. The best way to pay honour to these venerated people is to detach ourselves from the forces of evil and remain steadfast with truth and spirituality.”
He also called for election boycott and said it is only meant to “strengthen Indian occupation”.
“Our revered ancestors, saints and spiritual leaders showed us the way of wisdom, tolerance, struggle and steadfastness. We have forgotten the teachings of these spiritual leaders and because of this ignorance we are today suffering in our daily lives.”
Malik said it was this great thinker and spiritual leader who besides providing us the much needed religious and spiritual knowledge also taught us the way of living with dignity and honour and adhering to the truth.
“How can we call ourselves the followers of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) when we are not ready to follow the tenets and principles rendered by him,” Malik said.
JKLF chief also appealed for religious tolerance and Maslaki (sectarian) brotherhood among Muslims and said promoting mutual brotherhood is the only solution that can eradicate our miseries.
Terming Jammu Kashmir issue as a living reality, Yasin Malik said the people of the State are fighting a “war of their future and welfare”.
“Our struggle for freedom is actually based on truth and justice and we have been shown and taught this way of struggle for truth and justice by spiritual leaders like Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA),” Malik said.
Meanwhile, a JKLF delegation visited the family of slain JeM commander Noor Muhammad Tantary at Aribaldar Tral and paid tributes to him. (GNS)
