Srinagar: Reserve Bank of India, Jammu organized one day workshop for the Directors of RSETIs functioning in the State of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday at Srinagar. The Workshop was inaugurated by A. K. Mattu, General Manager & Officer-in-Charge, RBI, Jammu and Kashmir.
In his inaugural address, Mattu highlighted that the present employment market in organized and unorganized sector had the limited potential to offer gainful employment to the growing population of employable youth emerging from degree and other training establishments / institutions every year. Therefore, there was a strong case and need to encourage the micro and small enterprise sector where such burgeoning population of youth with proper training and skill development could have an opportunity to identify and select / initiate their own ventures of self-employment. The important task of imparting proper training and orienting skills of the youth rested on RSETIs. RSETIs was an important institutional mechanism of not only imparting training to the unemployed youth but also to assist them in taking up ventures with credit linkage to the banks, wherever required with an initial phase of handholding. He reminded that the despite various constraints relating to geography, ecology, accessibility/ connectivity issues etc., the State of Jammu and Kashmir was endowed with great potential in the sectors like Tourism, Horticulture, Handicrafts and Handlooms and exports etc. which could be tapped and which had the potential to boost the State economy, entrepreneurship culture and aid the employment generation using local resources. While elaborating on the evolution of RSETIs, he exuded confidence that RSETI in the State of Jammu and Kashmir had contributed immensely in helping unemployed youth to establish their units, assist and handhold them till they achieve a sustainable level of maturity as also assist them in seeking bank loans under various schemes in a hassle free manner.
Shri Mattu informed that RSETIs have trained 40,261 since inception out of which, more than 27000 had been settled either in wage employment or in self-employment marking 67% settlement. Nearly 9500 candidates had availed bank finance to start their own ventures among the settled ones.
Shri Pushpas Pandey, Deputy General Manager, NABARD made a fervent appeal to participants to make best use of RSETI model and provide much needed succour to the economy by orienting youth to sustainable and viable economic ventures after imparting necessary training and desired handholding by RSETIs.
An impressive presentation on digital products and how digital products can transform an economy was made by the Shri Vipin Diwedi, senior official of National Payment Corporation of India, Mumabi.
The workshop was also attended by Shri Rakesh Gandotra, Vice President, JK SLBC, Directors of RSETIs, representatives from sponsor banks viz: JKB & SBI.
