The significance of Arabic language cannot be underestimated in the modern world and more so in Jammu & Kashmir the only muslim majority state in India. Arabic is the official language of over 20 countries and there are about 300 million speakers of Arabic across the world. Unfortunately Arabic is not the official language in Jammu & Kashmir the only muslim majority state in India. Though the founder of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed the two time former Chief Minister himself had the distinction of being a post graduate in the Arabi language but he too did not took any interest in the expansion of Arabic language in the state and even after his death the incumbent government headed by PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti too is not giving attention to the neglect of the Arabic language in this only muslim majority state of the country. Mehbooba government taking keen interest in the introduction of some new subjects at all levels is yet to show interest in the introduction of Arabic language at primary, middle and secondary levels in schools. Once the Arabic language was being taught at the primary and middle levels but after adopting NCERT pattern of education in schools the Jammu & Kashmir government stopped the practice of teaching Arabic language at primary and middle levels in schools. Keeping in view the increasing tendencies of the students for choosing Islamic studies as a subject for post graduation in Kashmir University the incumbent government should have given a thought to the idea of introducing Arabic at primary, middle and secondary levels in schools across Jammu & Kashmir. The helmsmen in the education department can’t dispute the fact that Jammu & Kashmir is the only muslim majority state in the country and Arabic being the language of the Holy Quran is most sacred language for muslims. Worth mentioning are some of the historical facts about the Arabic language.

Multinational companies and Indian conglomerates across sectors like IT, Publishing, Advertising, Entertainment, Mass Communications, Aviation, Hospitality & Tourism, Education & Training and Public Relations, to name a few. So by all standards of understandabilities studying the Arabic language will give government a cutting edge in addressing the issues of unemployment and economic instability.

The Arabic language gained importance as a result of the spread of Islam in the 7th and 8th centuries. During this period the Arabic came into contact with the European languages and enriched them. Even though little changes took place in the Arabic language during the last century, it got refined with new words and technological terms during the last century. This historical fact can’t be denied that arabs have also made significant contributions in literature, mathematics, navigation, astrology, and architecture and as such even naives can understand that knowledge of Arabic will help the government to explore this vast body of knowledge in their original form. Importantly in today’s world, Arabic is of utmost importance due to the economic significance of the oil producing Arabic countries in the global scenario. Learning the Arabic language can open doors to employment in the oil and travel industry. More over knowing the Arabic language can help us find a career in a variety of fields such as journalism, business and industry, education, finance and banking, translation and interpretation, consulting, foreign service and some other fields. Worth mentioning is the fact that there is a growing demand for candidates with great language skills in multinational companies and Indian conglomerates across sectors like IT, Publishing, Advertising, Entertainment, Mass Communications, Aviation, Hospitality & Tourism, Education & Training and Public Relations, to name a few. So by all standards of understandabilities studying the Arabic language will give government a cutting edge in addressing the issues of unemployment and economic instability.
