Srinagar: Amid shutdown, clashes erupted in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against the killing of a non-local militant in an overnight gunfight in Sambora Pampore village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Two army men were also killed in the gunfight.
Eyewitnesses said a complete shutdown was observed in the district against the killing of the militant. All the shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained shut while traffic also remained off the roads.
Witnesses added that a large number of youth took to roads in Pulwama district and clashed with the deployed Forces. The youth amid pro-freedom slogans pelted stones on the government forces who responded with tear-smoke shells.

Locals from Samboora village alleged that after the culmination of gunfight, government forces unleashed a reign of terror in the village and thrashed people irrespective of their age and gender. “They even set dry grass on fire and smashed the window panes of dozens of houses. Parked vehicles were damaged by them at will,” said locals.
Authorities suspended train service in South Kashmir following the killing of a Jaish-e-Muhammad militant in an overnight encounter in Sambora village of Pampore town in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
An official said that train service was suspended on Friday due to security reasons.
However, trains continued to chug on Srinagar-Baramulla area as per schedule, official sources said.
Reports said that the overall situation remained peaceful across Kashmir after Friday prayers. Minor stone-pelting incident was reported from North Kashmir’s Sopore town. Police used some tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
Meanwhile, authorities allowed Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid after a month. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led the prayers.
Reports from Shopian said that scores of people participated in the last rites of BJP youth president Gowhar Bhat whose throat slit body was found in the district.
