Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir High Court (HC) quashed the detention of senior separatist leader Musarat Alam under Public Safety Act (PSA) on Monday.
This was the 35th PSA quashed by the court against Alam, by a single bench comprising Justice Alok Aradhay. However, the court directed the government to release Alam if he is not required in any other case.
Alam, general secretary of the hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC), was arrested in 2014 few months after his release by the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led coalition PDP-BJP government.
However, he was re-arrested each time even though his arrest under PSA was quashed by courts. Masrat was first arrested in 2010 when he was issuing protest calendars. He has been lodged in Kotbalwal Jail, Jammu since his arrest in 2014.
