Awantipora: Authorities at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora on Thursday said an investigation has been started after eight students of the varsity fainted allegedly after unknown persons attacked them with a spray.
Eight female students of MBA department fainted on Wednesday while they were waiting for their post-lunch classes around 2 pm inside the varsity.
The students were rushed to PHC Awantipora where from they were referred to SKIMS Srinagar for specialized treatment. One of the agitating students said that this was the second such attack on them.
“Earlier on Tuesday unknown persons locked up the classroom and later students shouted and the lock was broken by the university escorts,” she claimed.
The students also alleged that none of the female teachers accompanied them to SKIMS.
Meanwhile, vice chancellor IUST and other officials have reached SKIMS to take stock of the situation and stated that students are out of danger.
Officials on conditions of anonymity told Kashmir Horizon that University has constituted a committee to investigate the matters. “The committee will check both the incidents and submit the report within 24 hours,” said an official who did not wish to be named.
Station House Officer Awantipora, Nazir Ahmed said that police have taken a cognizance of the matter and begun investigations.
