Tral/Oct,23: A shutdown against alleged thrashing of a militant’s family by army on Sunday evening is being observed today in several parts of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The troopers of Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles allegedly thrashed a Hizbul Mujahideen militant’s family in Wagad hamlet of Aripal tehsil last night.

The incident triggered a complete shutdown in Tral, Aripal and and its adjoining areas on Monday.

On Sunday night, army men allegedly barged into the residence of the Hizb militant Mushtaq Ahmed Chopan and thrashed his old aged father, Ghulam Ahmed Chopan.

“They (army men) not only thrashed him but also injured dozens of villagers,” Chopan’s family members told Greater Kashmir.

On Monday morning, forces ransacked the reaidential houses and mosques after finding a road blocked, locals said.

Forces have also broken window panes, smashed goods, accessories and damaged property worth lakhs, they alleged.

Soon after the news about the thrashing of militant chopan’s family at the hands of forces spread, the shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in the nearby Tral and Aripal areas.

Superintendent of police Awantipora, Mohammad Zahid Malik told Greater Kashmir “I will look into the issue. I also want people not to take law in their own hands by blocking roads,” he said.
