Shopian: In yet another incident of bank robbery, unidentified gunmen looted the branch of a bank in Ratnipora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday morning. Meanwhile top militant outfit Hizb ul Mijahideen has distanced itself from bank robbery incidents in Kashmir valley.
Police sources said that three masked gunmen barged into a bank branch in Ratnipora and decamped with cash.
He said that the gunmen damaged the CCTV cameras before looting the cash.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shopian A S Dinkar said that the gunmen looted Rs one lakh and ninety eight thousand rupees from the bank.
This is the second such incident in past two days. Gunmen on Thursday loot over five lakh rupees from a branch of J&K Bank in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
Police blamed militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen for the bank loot and named two Hizb militants from Tral for the act, a charge denied by the outfit.
Meanwhile militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen Friday distanced itself from the bank robbery incidents and said that robbing banks is not the work of militants.
Hizb Operational Spokesperson Burhanuddin told news gathering agency CNS over phone that: “We do not believe in bank robberies as it is unislamic and unethical. Robbing Banks is not the work of militants. Honesty, truth and serving Kashmiri people is our core trait.”
The Spokesperson castigated police for holding its militants responsible for the bank robbery incident in Kashmir and termed it Indian agenda to tarnish the character of militants.
