Srinagar: Braid chopping incidents have not stopped in Kashmir Valley while on Friday a series of such incidents occurred in different parts of Valley, creating panic and fear psychosis among people.
Fresh braid chopping incident was reported on Friday morning in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar city where a 45 year old woman became the latest victim. The incident sparked protest in the area, while protesters blocked traffic for some time. They were dispersed peacefully by police after assurance that matter will be thoroughly investigated.
Earlier, the braid of a woman was chopped off at Bashubagh Kanihama area in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The victim according to family members was coming out from her washroom located outside their house, when the culprit emerged and chopped her braid.
A woman at Azad Basti Natipora area of Srinagar city foiled the attempt of a braid cutter when she pushed him away.
At Donow Kulgam in South Kashmir, the braid of the daughter of Abdul Gani Sofi was chopped off by unknown persons on Friday afternoon.
At Singhpora Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, fresh braid cutting incident sparked massive protest. The protesters blocked Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and demanded nabbing of the criminals. “The honour and dignity of our sisters and mothers are at stake. This un-Islamic act is the brain child of agencies to create chaos and confusion among people,” said a protester adding that the victim is an orphan.
The locals alleged that police didn’t rush to spot, contrary fired tear-smoke shells on protesters.
Meanwhile, unknown persons chopped off beard of a Masjid Imam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.
Molvi Ghulam Nabi Ghorsi was on way to Masjid in Futlipora village of Chrar-e-Sharief area early Friday to lead Fajr prayers when unknown persons caught hold of him and chopped off his beard, local sources said.
He fell unconscious and was shifted to Hospital, they said.
A police official in Chrar-e-Sharief confirmed the incident. The incident sent shock waves inviting condemnations from all quarters. Socio-religious organization Jamiat-e-Ahal-Hadees while condemning the incident termed it a direct attack on the religion. The organization blamed Indian agencies for the act and said that new ways and means are being adopted to harass the hapless people of Kashmir.
