Srinagar: Authorities in Kashmir Valley have beefed up security after inputs of possible militant attack ahead of Eid-ul-Adha festival.
Sources said that the security across Valley has been tightened to foil any militant strike on the pattern of DPL Pulwama that left eight forces men and three Jaish-e-Muhammad Fidayeen dead during 18-hour long standoff. Reports said that there are inputs about more such strikes and the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir has also admitted to threats by Jaish militant outfit.
The sources said that the security agencies are taking all steps to foil militant designs and have increased vigil in sensitive areas. “There is increased vigil in parts of Srinagar and south Kashmir,” they said. Reports said that the security men recently intercepted the militant conversation about the possible attack in Srinagar. “We don’t want to take any chance and we are alert,” the security sources said.
The government forces today cordoned off Frestbal in Pampore area near Srinagar district and launched searches. The search operation was on for several hours but later it concluded peacefully. The searches were also conducted in Methan area of Chanapora in Srinagar, reports said. Similar searches were carried out at Silkoot in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.(GNS)
