Srinagar: Friday congregational prayers were allowed for the second successive week at the historic Jamia Masjid in Shehar-e-Khas (SeK).
Meanwhile, chairman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq remained under house arrest from last over two months while there was no relief for chairman of hardline HC Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
However, immediately after Friday prayers were over in Jamia Masjid, clashes erupted outside the mosque between security forces and protestors, who were stopped from holding a march against civilian and militant killings in Kashmir valley.
Friday prayers were not offered in Jamia Masjid for six weeks since June 23, when for the first time in the history after Independence that prayers on Jumma-Tul-Vida, last Friday of Holy month of Ramadan, were disallowed by imposing restrictions.
Police said there was no curfew or restrictions in any part of the Valley though deployment of security forces on ground would continue to maintain law and order.
Friday prayers were offered at Hazratbal shrine, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad, on the bank of Dal Lake.
Reports of offering Friday prayers were also received from other parts of the Valley.
A Hurriyat spokesperson said Mirwaiz remained under house arrest for the past about two months and was not allowed to addressing Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid.
A large number of security forces and state police personnel also remained deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani, who was not allowed to move out.
