Abdul Khaliq Sheikh father of slain youth told Kashmir Horizon “I have served in the Indian army for more than 20 years.” He said he has retired from the service a couple of years back and was now working in a bank. Three militants were killed in the gunfight between militants and forces.
Meanwhile shutdown against the killing of three militants and a civilian in Tral was observed in Pulwama district against the killing of three militants and a civilian Wednesday this week. The mobile service also remained suspended in the district for the second day Thursday to prevent spread of rumours on social media.
Zahid Ahmed, one among the three militants killed during a gun fight with government forces was laid to rest amid pro-freedom protest at Nawdal Tral village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Three militants-Zahid Ahmed Bhat from Nawdal Tral, Ishfaq Ahmed from Batgund Tral and Muhammad Ashraf Dar from Trich Pulwama were killed in a gunfight at Gulab Bagh Tral while a civilian Muhammad Younis of Saimou Tral was killed in Government Forces firing.
The civilian and the two militants were laid to rest on Wednesday night. Thousands of mourners participated in their funeral processions.
A large number of people also participated in the funeral procession of Zahid Ahmed at Nawdal Tral on Thursday. Mourners raised pro freedom and pro Zakir Musa slogans.
Shortly after the culmination of funeral procession, youth clashed with government forces who retaliated with tear-smoke shells. Mobile internet and cellular services barring government owned BSNL are shut in the district. Heavy contingent of government forces personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order in the town.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate (DM), Pulwma has ordered closure of all educational institutions as precautionary measure.

However, traffic on Srinagar- Jammu national highway and other south Kashmir districts passing through the district was plying normally. Work in government offices and banks was also affected. Train in south Kashmir was also running normally.
People also observed strike in Quimoh area in Kulgam district alleging that security forces damaged window panes and other property last night.
