Srinagar: In view of the arrest of at least seven separatists, including son-in-law of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani by the NIA, state Special Director General CRPF S N Shrivastava Thursday said that action will be taken to keep check on law and order issues besides militancy-related activities in the Kashmir valley.
“NIA investigation has cleared so many things. These elements were acting upon the directions from across the border and also being funded to create disturbance in the Kashmir Valley,’’ Mr Shrivastava told reporters here at a press conference at the sidelines of a function organised to celebrate CRPF Raising Day.
“With NIA action, noose will be tightened on terror funding and it will also keep check on law and order problem vis-à-vis militancy related activities,’’ said the CRPF top officer.
On the recent attack on Amarnath Yatra in Anantnag in which eight pilgrims were killed, the Special DG said, “We have made elaborate security arrangements for the yatra but I want to request the pilgrims to be part of security convoys instead of going on their own.’’
“The pilgrims must follow ROP time and we have requested and encouraged them to strictly follow it,’’ he added.
He said that ‘nakas’ have also been raised while patrolling parties are put on more alert to prevent any untoward incident.
On the prevailing situation in Kashmir, he said, “It is an outcome of joint synergy between the security agencies and forces including Army, BSF and the para-military forces that more than 100 terrorists have been neutralised so far in the Kashmir valley.’’
On security arrangements at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine, Mr Shrivastava said, “There are no specific inputs but general threat perception is always there and our troops are on alert round the clock, manning track, Katra base town and the shrine so that devotees from across the country without any fear visit to the holy place.’’
Meanwhile, on spurt in violence in South Kashmir, the Special DG said, “Militancy no doubt has shown its presence but at the same time, security forces have collectively made their impact but still a long way to go.’’
He, however, said that CRPF is playing an important role in maintaining law and order, challenging terrorism in the Kashmir valley, adding, “We are geared up and efficient to face any challenge.’’
