Srinagar/June,8: One more militant was killed as troops foiled yet another infiltration bid in Gurez sector in Bandipora this morning, taking the number of infiltrators killed along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir during the last 24 hours to seven.
The total tally of militants killed since Wednesday has risen to 14 as troops thwarted five infiltration bids at LoC in north Kashmir. A soldier was also martyred and two others were injured during these counter insurgency operations on Thursday.
Official sources said troops detected a group of militants sneaking into this side of border from Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK) at Gurez sector in Bandipora.
However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.
Security forces retaliated, they said, adding one militant were killed in the initial exchange of fire. Reinforcement has been rushed and a massive search operation was launched in the woods, which was still going on in the area.
Yesterday, six militants were killed after Army foiled an infiltration bid near the LoC in Uri sector in Baramulla.
On May 26, two Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) members, who tried to infiltrate into this side of LoC at Uri sector to carry out an attack on soldiers, were gunned down.
Six more militants were killed in the same sector on the following day when they attempted to sneak into Kashmir valley from across the border.
