Hurriyat (G) concerned about detention of Aasiya, Sofi, others

Srinagar, Jun 01: Hurriyat (G) on Thursday expressed deep concern about incarcerated pro-freedom leaders including Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmeeda Sofi, Mohammad Rustum Bhat, Master Ali Mohammad, Sheikh Mohammad Yusuf, Ab Subhan Wani, Gh Mohammad Tantrey, Mushtaq Ahmad and said that despite their deteriorating health, they are not being released.
In an appeal to ICRC, Amnesty International and international organization for human rights, Hurriyat (G) impressed to take their cognizance and use influence for immediate release of all detainees and provide proper medical treatment.
Demanding release of all political prisoners detained under Public Safety Act (PSA), Hurriyat according to the statement issued to KNS, said that detainees are subjected to vengeance and not treated as per jail manual.
Spokesman, Ayaz Akbar said that Aasiya Andrabi is suffering from multiple ailments and is critically ill and lodging her in extreme temperatures in Amphala would turn detrimental to her ailing health.
He warned administration and said if any untoward happens to ailing leader, administration shall have to face consequences.
In a detailed statement, spokesman said that most of prisoners are affiliated with Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and since last year more than 500 hundred political activists are languishing in outside valley jails.
“150 among them are those bailed out by judiciary; however administration hindered their release and continued their detention while slapping one more PSA on them,” he said.
Spokesman said that more than hundred though bailed out from all charges, however were again booked under section 107 &151 and kept under preventive custody.
Despite quashing of PSA and bailing out by courts, political activists are being rearrested and most of them are still lodged in different police stations under frivolous charges.
Spokesman said that detention period of prisoners is prolonged on one pretext or the other and these prisoners are not produced in respective courts for hearings on specific dates. The detainees are harassed and subjected to vengeances, said spokesman.
“Most of those arrested during mass uprising in year 2016, are elderly and are above fifty while as twenty among these are above seventy,” spokesman added.
He said that among these 150 are teenagers and those elderly, are suffering from different ailments.
“There is no proper treatment facility for ailing prisoners and instead of proper and specific treatment, are treated by nursing orderly and most of the time provided with pain killers. Statement said that the condition in Jammu jail is worst and medical experts and doctors rarely visit these detention centers,” he said.
