Srinagar, Jun 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants, responsible for a grenade attack in Sopore yesterday, alongwith arms and ammunition in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
Four policemen were injured in the attack.
A police spokesperson here today said that unknown militants lobbed a grenade on a police deployment near Treasury office (TP Bank) Sopore, resulting in injuries to four police personnel.
He said a case was registered and investigation was taken up.
During investigation, he said it was learned that two new recruited HM militants, identified as Mehraj-Ud-Din Mir and Mohammad Rafiq Lone were responsible for the grenade attack.
“The duo has also been identified from the CCTV footage,” he said.
He said it was also learnt that these new recruits were motivated by HM Commander Aijaz Mir and Basharat Ahmad Sheikh to join the militancy and intensify attacks on Police and Security forces. Sheikh was today killed in an encounter alongwith another militant in an encounter with security forces in Sopore.
The spokesperson said security forces raided a particular area in Sopore and arrested both the militants, who were responsible for the attack, alongwith two pistols and four grenades.
