Khartoum: Sudan’s Foreign Minister Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour received a message from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in which he commended the efforts exerted by Sudan to alleviate the suffering of the people of South Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Guterres highlighted the efforts exerted by the Sudanese government in various areas, including the provision of humanitarian assistance to those affected by the South Sudanese humanitarian crisis. He commended Sudan’s facilitation of the UN’s role in delivering humanitarian aid through the opening of humanitarian corridors to South Sudan.
The UN chief also expressed appreciation for the continued efforts by the government of Sudan and its welcoming of the South Sudanese refugees who have fled into Sudan following the humanitarian crisis in their country. He said his efforts would continue with the member states to attract more assistance to meet the needs of the refugees crossing into Sudan and other neighboring countries.
The Secretary General also said the UN would rely on the efforts being made by Sudan to back international pressure on South Sudanese conflicting parties to end the fighting in the country.
