Dy CM for expediting developmental initiatives in Srinagar city

Jammu/May,24: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Wednesday directed the officers to expedite developmental initiatives undertaken in the Srinagar city keeping in view the stipulated timelines and the necessary environmental concerns.

The Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with officers during his extensive tour of the Srinagar city to take stock of the developmental initiatives undertaken in the Housing and Urban Development sector. He also inspected the Rakh-e-Arth colony and the Achan dumping site.

He was accompanied by the Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Vice Chairman LAWWDA,  Tehseem Mustafa, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr Shafqat and other senior officers.

The Deputy Chief Minister while his inspection of the Rakh-e-Arth Housing Colony coming up for the settlement of the people displaced from Dal directed the officers to ensure that it is completed in all respects within the shortest possible time so that the proper settlement of these Dal dwellers can be  done. He said the government is committed to their proper rehabilitation and the colony coming up would be replete with all the modern amenities of housing and urban living.

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the officers to implement the decision of the High Level Committee (HLC) which has not been implemented since 2015. He said the officers should also hold regular meetings to oversee the development of the colony and also with the people whose property has been acquired so that they do not face any inconvenience.

Dr. Singh while inspecting the Achan land dumping site directed the officers to speed up the pace of work on the Solid Waste Management Plant (SWMP) being constructed for the effective management of solid waste. He said with commissioning of the same the problem of garbage and waste disposal of the city can be addressed in a proper and scientific manner.

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensue the installation of segregation machine by 29th of this month so that the plant can be made functional by 31st May and then commissioned. He also directed the PDD to set up new electric sub-station at the site within the shortest possible time.

Dr. Singh also met several deputations during his tour of the Srinagar city who projected several issues related to their areas. He assured them that these would be solved within the shortest possible time.

The Deputy Chief Minister while interacting with these deputations said the government has already undertaken a comprehensive developmental program to ensure that the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar come up as models with all the modern facilities of urban living. He said the necessary instruction have already been passed to the concerned to ensure the timely completion of these developmental and welfare schemes.
