Bar Association condemns arrest of Class 6th student

Srinagar/May 06: Kashmir High Court Bar Association (KHBA)  Srinagar Saturday strongly condemned the ‘inhuman and barbaric’ act of arresting a ten-year-old boy Suhail Ahmad Dar of Aripanthan Beerwah from his home, during the intervening night of 3/4th May, 2017, by the police Magam, who since then has arbitrarily and unlawfully been held as a hostage and detained in police station Magam. As per press reports, the teenager is a 6th class student of Gulshan Public School Khazarpora and as per school records, he has not as yet attained the age of 10 years. The police besides arresting the boy also beat his father and mother mercilessly and while enquiring about their son Aadil, who was not present at the home, dragged Suhail out and took him away with them, which act of police, besides being illegal and unlawful is also a flagrant violation of the human rights of the people guaranteed to them by both domestic and international law.
The Bar Association also condemned the use of brutal force against the students at Budgam, Sopore and other places, who were all peacefully protesting against the arrest and detention of school going children, throughout the valley and were demanding their immediate release. The Bar Association also condemns the thrashing of two journalists, who had gone to Sopore in connection with their professional engagement, but were not only prevented from doing so, were also given a severe beating by the ruthless forces, due to which both received injuries on their person and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The Bar Association also condemned the crackdown of 25 villages of Shopian and the bulldozing of the houses of the people and besides damaging and destroying their household and other properties were also thrashed by army, CRPF personnel and the police personnel, without having any respect and regard for their human rights.
The Bar Association requested the peace loving people of the world including UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other human rights organizations of the World to take stock of the happenings in Kashmir and impress upon India to respect the human rights of the people of Kashmir and settle the issue of Kashmir in accordance with their aspirations and wishes, at the earliest, so that the people of Kashmir also live peacefully.
