Anantnag/April, 8: Stating that he will withdraw if the Governor’s rule is not imposed in Jammu and Kashmir, Joint candidate of the Congress and National Conference for south Kashmir’s Anantnag parliamentary seat, G.A. Mir Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Returning Officer in this regard. “Either Election Commission of India conduct a free and fair polls or Governors rule should be imposed in the state and if neither of them is possible, then I will withdraw,” this is what I have mentioned in my memorandum that I submitted before the Returning Officer,” G.A. Mir said.
Accusing Election Commission of partiality, Mir said that the deferment of elections in South Kashmir was a unilateral decision and they were not taken on the board. “The copies send to Election Commission of India by the government were even not provided to us. We were told that a decision with regard to deferment will be taken collectively, but the government took a unilateral decision and made a mockery of democracy,” Mir said.
He claimed that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is hell-bent to see his brother as Member Parliament. “The election was postponed not because Srinagar witnessed violence, but because PDP received inputs that its candidate is losing the seat as people are ready to vote against the party,” he said.
“Tell me how government expects situation will be peaceful till May 25. Whether it has decided to stop civilian killings and arresting people till May 25 or it thinks that conducting elections in the month of holy Ramadahn will help it. I don’t know what government is up to,” he said.
