Srinagar, Apr 05: Underscoring the need for peace and stability on ground, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) General Secretary Nizamudin Bhat Tuesday said violence should not be allowed to become a permanent feature of Kashmiri society.
“The last three decades of conflict have yielded us nothing except for pain and agony. We have lost a complete generation and it has also badly affected our growth. If this is allowed to go unchallenged, it will have disastrous repercussions for our future. It has to come to an end only then can we prosper and build our future as per our wishes,” he said while interacting with various public delegations in Pulwama.
Asserting that dialogue is the only way forward for lasting peace and reconciliation, he said societal discourse is crucial for resolving larger issues. “There is no alternate to peace and dialogue. Violence won’t do anything good to us,” he said in a statement to KNS.
He said the PDP will facilitate any initiative that aims at bringing calm on streets. “Chief Minister, Mehbooba Ji has a strong desire to see J&K as an abode of peace and prosperity. We are hopeful to see our place becoming a hub of peace and tranquillity in the entire South Asian region.”
Bhat said a consensus should evolve at the societal level about the issues that have marred our socio-political and economic stability. “Socio-economic upliftment and empowerment of the people are crucial for reconciliation.”
Speaking on the occasion, senior party leader and MLA Pulwama, Mohammad Khalil Bhand said the government has taken effective measures to give fillip to economic and development initiatives in the entire district.
“Every sector is getting the focussed attention and the officers are working hard to ensure the desired outcome. The support of people has been forthcoming to every measure which we have been taking to redress their issues,” he added. District president, Abdul Gani Dar and others were also present on the occasion. (KNS)
