Train service to evacuate J&K residents’ starts, 1000 returnees to reach UT on Tue

Srinagar: The special train service to bring back J&K residents, who are stranded in different parts of the country amid lockdown to curtail the spread of Coronavirus, was started on Sunday, an official said.
He said over 1000 J&K residents, stranded in Bangaluru, have been evacuated in a special train, which will arrive at Udhampur in Jammu region on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a train bringing J&K residents back to the UT will leave Goa on Sunday evening.
J&K UT spokesperson Rohit Kansal on Sunday said that the first train to J&K has started, making it ‘one more channel of return active now’. “Trains are being scheduled from every part of India quickly and everyone will be facilitated,” he added.
Giving details, the official said that over 1000 stranded people, onboard Bengaluru-Udhampur train, will reach its destination on Tuesday morning.
He said J&K residents, who had registered online for their return, were asked to reach Biapanhalli Police station for their medical examination. “After their medical examination, these people were taken to the railway station in BMTC buses for onward journey towards Udhampur,” he added.
“Waving of hands and byes from those heading to #Udhampur marked the departure of the first train towards Jammu and Kashmir from Bengaluru at about 12.30 PM. A large number of students among them,” Minister of State, Prime Minister’s office, Dr Jitendra Singh wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
“Movement process from Goa also begins, registrations underway for students, migrant workers and stranded residents from J&K. Train starting today evening for J&K,” the Information Department of J&K government wrote on its official twitter handle.
“Good news for stranded residents of J&K. First train of returnees expected on 10th evening/11th morning. Disembarkation at Udhampur. Protocols framed and procedure established for returnees district wise.100% to be tested and administrative quarantined. Pl cooperate fully,” the twitter handle had written on Saturday.
