SMC decontaminates Lal Bazar red zone

Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) pressed into service its mechanized decontamination vehicles and special team of workers for decontamination of Lal Bazar and its adjacent areas, here Thursday.

Lal Bazar area was declared red zone after the COVID positive cases were reported in the area.

According to SMC officials, decontamination drive was conducted in various areas in and around Lal Bazar including Alamdar Colony, Umar Colony, Bismillah Colony, Usman Abad, Habbak and Mughal Road.

During the drive, the sanitization chemicals including sodium hydrochloride were sprayed in the area as  preventive measure to break the chain of corona virus transmission.

Earlier, the sanitization drive was also conducted in Hanjic area of HMT where a local tested positive of COVID.

The officials informed that decontamination drive was also conducted in Chattabal on Wednesday after the locality witnessed more COVID positive cases.

Further, SMC is actively working in hospitals where the chemicals including Quaternary Ammonium compound are being sprayed to mitigate spread of COVID.

Besides, disinfectant tunnels have been installed and made operational each at CD hospital, LD hospital, GB Panth, JVC and two tunnels at SMHS for decontamination and sanitization.

Through these tunnels the persons visiting hospital including doctors, hospital workers, patients and their attendants get sanitized instantly while entering or leaving the hospital premises.

SMC authorities said the ground level workers, machinery of the Corporation is in full gear for containment of Covid-19.
