Unemployment purely refers when a person, when an individual who is actively searching for employment is unable to find work. Unemployment is often used as a measure of the health of the economy of a country. Unemployment is a key base indicator of economy as it properly signals the inadequacy of worker class to just acquire gainful work to conduce to the productive output of the economy. More unemployed workers mean less total national economic outcome or meager production, which can prove disastrous to the state and its people.
If we talk of unemployment in Kashmir, it has been a major challenge since long time. The current scenario of unemployment in our state is really disturbing. The poor culture of enterprise with less marketing and the unemployment idleness in the state is now a major operative of poverty, depravity and corruption. Many people are unemployed as they have not been found capable of art and skill that is being demanded in this environment of deep conscience and fast life. Unemployment has assumed a complicated and intricate situation cutting across all angles of age groups, education, geography and political entity. The more cursing is the rise of youth unemployment in Kashmir which is not a best result but very worst and detrimental for state. High youth unemployment has a negative impact, on the nation, on economic growth and productivity that can’t be ignored.
The increases or decrease rate in unemployment in a society may depend upon government avenues, human resources, poverty, social issues, education system, services sector, skill development etc. The socio-economic posture in terms of unemployment in state poses serious threat and challenges to both Govt, private as well as small public sectors. In our state the consumption demand rate has been totally downgraded, as the biggest citing reason of unemployment.
The economy of Jammu and Kashmir has suffered from disturbing and troublesome conditions from last 3 decades due to the various reasons. The major reasons like turmoil and conflict, bad political influence, overall downgrade development and many other things. Both centre and state governments are denying the facts but the reality check out through different economic agencies and NGO’s is totally different. In Jammu and Kashmir, the unemployment may depend upon the following factors:
Poverty: There is a intense alliance between poverty and unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir. In many areas of Jammu and Kashmir particularly the western and northern side, as largely uninhabitable, we are seeing effects of poverty on unemployment through different angles like barren lands, poor health and all-round improper design and development. Jammu and Kashmir has been the poorest state. Nearly 12.45 per cent of the population falls under the Below Poverty Line category with the rural areas holding more poor than the urban areas, which jolts it. Out of total percentage of the population living below poverty line, the percentage of population living below poverty line in rural areas is much more than urban areas. As already Jammu and Kashmir is in the top poor states, the backfire of unemployment strikes doubly at its spine.
Meagre Industrial Development: There are no big resources to be used by the unemployed youth. Comparable to the other smart states of country like Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh and etc with the capacity and capability of resources and large industrial estates. We are much backward in such circumstances. In fact we catch our power 3 to 6 hours a day, which shows our posture and status. Therefore it is important to identify the productive capabilities of different regions of the state to trigger growth and development impulse.
Loss Of Human Resource: The problem of unemployment causes loss of human resources. In fact it poses a threat. The labourers waste their maximum time in search of employment but failed to get job and satisfactory in Jammu and Kashmir, that has provided a surge in suicidal cases and thoughts. That causes a lot of exploitation. It can only be controlled by implementing the various government schemes and programs properly in such a way human resources may be engaged for development and industrial works.
Damaged Education System: A state’s economic factor becomes more productive as the proportion of educated workers increases since educated workers can more efficiently carry out assignment that require literacy and high thinking. In our state, the education system simply imparts general and literary education devoid of any practical content and field work plus there is no business and enterprise education given to students. Govt should focus on such process to protect the regime of destructive unemployment. Business education should be made compulsory for a student from primary class. According to the report “Education in India” released by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The 32.3 percent of dropout and discontinuation of education in rural Jammu and Kashmir for males is due to financial stress. The need of the hour is that there must be sufficient number of technical training and entrepreneur institutions for proper development.

Rise In Drug Addiction : Due to the rise in unemployment, the youth wanted their relief by taking refuge of drugs and Alcohol.infact a lot of unemployed youth joins such gangs and corporations which are actively involved in this disastrous menace. This impact heavily underscores our rendered culture of State. Apart from this, there are much more issues like social issues, slow private sector, decay of cottage industries and low technology which proves a boon in unemployment rate. In an environment like Kashmir, reforms in education, healthcare, tourism and finance can ease the way for entry and investment should be made to check our decelerating graph of unemployment.
