Pulwama: At least four militants were killed in a gun fight at Hanjin Rajpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwam on Saturday morning.
Army’s 44RR, 182 and 183 BN CRPF and SOG Pulwama jointly launched the operation in the village after receiving the inputs about the presence of militants in the village.
During the search operation, a contact with militants was established after that Forces and militants exchanged fire. The massive firing created panic in the area. A large number of people tried to advance towards the encounter spot, however, deployed forces foiled their attempt.
Srinagar based Defense official said that the gunfight broke out after the forces launched a search operation in Hajin Payeen following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
He added that 4 militants of Jaish-e-Muhammad were killed in the gunfight.
A police official identified the four slain militants as as Muzamil Ahmad of Rahmoo,Pulwama, Waseem Ahmed of Tiken,Pulwama, Muzamil Ahmad of Prichoo Pulwama and one foreigner namely Muhammad Kahlil Khan.
The bodies of three local militants were handed over to the families. Reports said that tens of thousands of people visited the native villages of slain militants to have their last glimpse.
Shortly after the encounter, a purported video went viral showing army soldiers celebrating the killing of these four militants amid raising pro-Hindu slogans.
During the post encounter clashes, over a dozen people were wounded in clashes with the government forces near gunfight site.
According to the report eleven of the injured were brought to Public Health Centre (PHC) Rajpora for treatment,
“Ten were hit by pellets and they were being treated at the facility while one with head injury, most probably caused by a stone, was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for further treatment,” a health official at PHC Rajpora said.
As per reports youth took to streets and threw stones on the forces as soon as the news of the gunfight in Hajin Payeen village spread in the area. The forces, they said, responded by firing tear gas and pellets.
