4 cops killed in militant attack at Zainpora Shopian

Shopian: At least four cops were killed in a deadly militant attack in Zainpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The armed militants attacked cops guarding a minority community post killing three cops on spot while the fourth one succumbed to his injuries in the hospitals. Governor Satya Pal Malik, National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti too a former Chief Minister condemned the killing of police men in Shopian
Reports said that militants after the attack also snatched the service rifles of deceased cops and fled away from the spot.
The slain cops were identified as constable Mehrajuddin (belt no. 477/ Spn) of Chewa Ajas Bandipora, Hamidullah (belt no. 860/ Spn) of Fatehpora Anantnag, Anees Ahmad Mir (belt no. 480/ Spn) of Souch Kulgam and Abdul Majeed a resident of Ganderbal.
A police official said that militants in the afternoon fired upon the guard post deployed at Zainapora in District Shopian.
“Militants fired indiscriminately on a guard post at Zainapora area of Shopian in which four cops were killed.”Area was cordoned off and search was initiated in the area shortly after the attack.
Governor Satya Pal Malik expressed grief over the loss of lives of policemen who were martyred Tuesday in a terrorist attack on a police post at Zainapora in Shopian. In a message Governor has prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Mr. Omar Abdullah on Tuesday condemned the killing of three JK policemen Anees Ahmad, Abdul Majid and Mehraj ud Din in an attack on a police post in Zainapora hamlet of Shopian.
Vice president while deploring the killings said, “We have lost three of our brave cops while delivering their duties. I pay my heartfelt tributes to the three policemen and pray for the speedy recovery of those who are injured,” he said. Expressing his heartfelt condolence with the bereaved families, the NC Vice President said state has been at the receiving end with deaths, whether of a civilian, a policeman or a militant, becoming order of the day over the past three decades.
Omar while expressing concern said that a minority community which is putting up there should not feel apprehensive of their security. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also while condemning the killing of cops tweeted: “Strongly condemn attack on policemen in Shopian claiming 3 precious lives. Bears repetition, violence achieves nothing but destruction. Solidarity with families of jawans .Relieved that no harm caused to any civilians in the minority pocket they guarded.”
