Srinagar : Though N N Vohra, the former Governor had directed the cancellation of the orders issued for establishing Degree Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir by the previous Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition government but after taking charge the Governor Satya Pal Malik has through State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by him ordered the establishing of 26 degree colleges against the twenty four colleges for which the previous Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition cabinet had granted sanction and orders were issued.
The incumbent Satya Pal Malik headed state administration has in a SAC order sanctioned twenty six colleges but the locations have been changed making some MLAs, losers and their contemporaries winners in their respective constituencies. The new locations of the colleges are Ajas and Hajin in Bandipora, Kunjwani/Sainik Colony in Jammu, Nagrota in Udhampur, Khaltsi in Leh, Awantipora in Pulwama, Dongi/Chatya/Kallar in Rajouri,Batote/Pouni in Reasi, Kakryal/Katra, Ramgarh and Purmandal in Samba and Hyderpora and Alochinagh instead of Eidgah in Srinagar.
Quoting sources local news gathering agency KNS reported that the finance and planning departments have not granted sanctions for establishing these colleges either during the reign of Mehbooba led government or now during the Governor’s rule.
Sources said that the land for the colleges is yet to identify while the rules in place make it mandatory for the government to identify the land first and accord sanction for setting up the colleges later.
It has been also learned that state land is not available in most of the areas for setting up these colleges. Setting aside these all codel formalities for setting up these colleges, the Satya Pal Malik administration has gone the Mehbooba way but changed locations to make some MLAs, winners and their contemporaries at some places losers.
