After withdrawing support to Mehbooba led Mufti led PDP in Jammu & Kashmir the Modi led BJP Government at the central has brought it remote controlled men at all the three key positions,i.e, Governor, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police and now people in Jammu & Kashmir have not even an iota of doubt that Modi government has brought them under its direct control. The removal of the Director General Police Dr S P Vaid and his posting on an insignificant position has conveyed in unequivocal terms the message to the top babus of Jammu & Kashmir government that those failing work at the whims and wishes of the Modi government won’t be allowed to hold key positions in the state. The removal of the Director General Police S P Vaid and placement of an interim Director General Police is in itself an indication that the central government did not want vaid to continue even for a day now obviously for his actions in freeing the father of a top militant commander in lieu for the freeing of eleven policemen by militants.
Holding panchayat and municipal elections under a new governor, a new chief secretary and now also a new Director General Police in a fearful atmosphere in Jammu & Kashmir indicates that Modi government wants to run even the political process at its own whims and wishes despite boycott of the civic elections by National Conference the oldest and largest regional party of the state.
Interestingly the government also shifted the chief of the intelligence wing of Jammu & Kashmir police only a day before the removal of S P Vaid as Director General Police. Since it has been categorically mentioned in the order that Dilbag Singh the interim Director General Police has to hold the charge of the duties in addition to his own duties as Director General Prisons till the time a regular arrangement is made it is obviously clear that Delhi is looking for a remote controlled man for appointment as Director General Police. The changes in the police top brass have come at a time when the government plans to hold panchayat and municipal elections in a fearful atmosphere in Jammu & Kashmir. Tending to hold even the civil elections on the strength of a muscular policy but not on the strength of electorate’s willingness is against the very spirit of democracy.
