Srinagar: Haji Syed Hamidullah Bukhari a veteran religious leader and social reformer passed away on Monday at about 12.00 noon at his ancestral residence at Kreeri. His death has been widely mourned by religious, social and cultural circles in district Baramulla. As soon as news about his demise spread in the area people in thousands thronged his residence at Kreeri Baramulla and participated in his Nimaz-e-Jinazah (funeral prayers). He had performed Haj twice and was widely respected for his contribution in spreading the teachings of Islam and reforming the society at large. His Rasm-e-Chahrum will be observed on Thursday at his ancestral graveyard in Kreeri.
He is survived by two daughters. He is father in law of a promising teacher Haji Syed Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari and noted poet, scholar and retired Principal of School Education Department Syed Sad Ud Din Bukhari. He is also maternal uncle (Khalu Jan) of Shafqat Bukhari senior journalist and Editor In Chief of English Daily Kashmir Horizon. Kashmir News Service (KNS) management headed by Editor-in-Chief Muhammad Aslam Bhat expressed grief over the demise of Bukhari’s maternal uncle and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
