Rashid Ali Dar elevated as High Court Judge

Srinagar: The Government of India (GoI) has cleared the name of Rashid Ali Dar, then Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar, for elevation of High Court judge.
Official sources said the warrant of elevation of Rashid Ali Dar is likely to be issued in next few days.
Rashid Ali Dar retired as Principal District and Session Judge Srinagar on November 30, 2017. Dar, a well-respected judge has been very popular with his bar.
The sanctioned strength of J&K High Court is 17 Judges including Chief Justice, but presently there are only 8 judges. These include Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal, Justice Sanjeev Kumar Shukla, Justice M K Hanjura and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta.
Born in economically backward Brinjan village of Chadoora Tehsil in Budgam district, Rashid Ali Dar had his earlier educatio in the local area up to primary classes in village Brinjan. He did his graduation at Amar Singh College in 1977-78 and L.L.B from University of Kashmir in 1980.
He joined BAR in May 1980, practiced in Munsiff Court Chadoora District Court Budgam, District Court Srinagar and High court up to June 1984.
Rashid Ali Dar had been president of Bar Association Chadoora up to June 1984.
He has been petitioner in two P.I.L’s as a legal practitioner distribution system was challenged being discriminatory in nature against villages who had been given less quota of rice than city residents and electricity tariff.
He had been founder / chairman of N.G.O Green Peace J&K Srinagar and human right society.
He qualified combined competitive examination in 1984 and joined Administrative Service, commonly known as K.A.S in June 1984. Has undergone training of revenue matters/ accountancy and about various managerial skills during probation.
He left Administrative Services in January 1987 and joined K.C.S judicial worked as Munsif Mahore district Reasi, Munsif Sumbal district Bandipora, Munsif Udhampur, Ist Munsif in Jammu, Munsif Chadoora, Munsif Sub-Registrar Srinagar, Munsif Pulwama and Munsif Bandipora.
He was promoted as Sub-Judge in 1996 and joined as sub-judge Ramnagar, sub-judge Wakf J&K, Deputy Registrar High Court Srinagar, Sub Judge/Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam, City Judge Srinagar, Chief Judicial Magistrate / Sub Registrar Srinagar and Sub Judge / Chief Judicial Magistrate Anantnag.
He was promoted as District Judge in April 2007 and worked as Special Judge TADA/POTA 2nd Additional District and Session Judge Srinagar and Special Judge Anti Corruption.
He has passed number of judgments from Munsif up to Principal District and Session Judge covering various fields. He passed judgment of convection as special judge Anti-corruption and ordered for confiscation of property acquired out of proceeds of crime was almost first of its nature in state.
Meanwhile, Government of India has also cleared the name of Advocate Sindhu Sharma presently Assistant Solicitor General of India and Rashid Ali Dar, then Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar, for elevation of High Court judge.
Advocate Sharma is presently Assistant Solicitor General of India in J&K High Court, Jammu Wing and she was the first lady advocate of State to be appointed as Assistant Solicitor General of India.
She cleared LLB in 1996 from Punjab University, Chandigarh in first division, BA (Hons) in 1993.
She was elected as Vice President of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu in 2013.
