Srinagar: Militants on Friday offered gun salute to slain Hizb ul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani on his second death anniversary at his native Tral township of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Eye witnesses said that a group of five masked militants appeared at the Eidgah in Tral where Wani is buried and fired several rounds in the air as a tribute.
Wani was killed along with two associates in Bamdoora village of Kokernag in Anantnag district on 8 July 2016. His death triggered an uprising in Kashmir that lasted many months.
“Militants carrying guns and wearing masks fired six shots in the air and left quickly from the graveyard,” said an eye witness, who didn’t give his name.
