Emphasises interdepartmental coordination, involvement of local stakeholders for eco-protection
ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, today chaired a meeting to review the planning, implementation and monitoring of the National Mission for Green India (GIM) in the district.
The meeting was attended by the Conservator of Forests, South Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief Agriculture Officer, DFOs of Lidder, Bijbehara and Anantnag Divisions, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat and other concerned officers.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for effective and timely implementation of the Green India Mission in the district. He directed all concerned departments and stakeholders to work with commitment and ensure that the plantation targets are achieved within the stipulated timelines.
Emphasising the importance of coordinated efforts, the DC called for active involvement of all stakeholders and stressed that inter-departmental coordination is essential for the successful implementation of the mission. He directed the concerned officers to ensure proper planning, execution and monitoring of plantation activities so that the intended targets of the initiative are achieved in the long run.
Dr. Bilal also highlighted the importance of involving local stakeholders in plantation and environmental conservation initiatives. He observed that such interventions can help impart greater environmental awareness among the people and contribute towards strengthening ecological security and improving green cover.
Earlier, Conservator of Forests, South Kashmir, briefed the chair on the proposed activities and implementation strategy under the mission. He informed that a plantation target of 20 hectares has been fixed for the current year, with plantation to include coniferous and fodder species. For the next year, a target of 69 hectares has been proposed under the mission.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on identifying and covering open land areas in and around forest areas, plantation activities and the provision of fencing for protection of newly planted areas. Proposed measures for protection and maintenance of plantation areas, with emphasis on fencing and other necessary interventions to ensure their survival and sustainability were also discussed.
