Doda | September, 15: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir president and Doda MLA Mehraj Malik was detained by police on Tuesday and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in connection with a pending criminal case.
Officials said Malik was not taken into custody for any new offense but solely to execute a court-issued non-bailable warrant. During the court proceedings, charges were formally framed against the legislator, paving the way for the trial to proceed under the law.
The detention generated significant local attention, drawing tight security around the court complex. Malik, who won the Doda Assembly seat in the 2024 elections, previously received legal relief when the High Court quashed his preventive detention under the Public Safety Act earlier in the year.
