India’s linguistic diversity strengthens unity amidst diversity: HM Amit Shah On Hindi Diwas

New Delhi, Sep 14: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that India’s culture and literature are like a lotus, with each regional language representing one of its petals. He said if even one petal is lost, the beauty of the entire lotus diminishes. He stressed that Hindi should play a central role while ensuring due respect and dignity to all regional languages.
Home Minister Shah was speaking after inaugurating the two-day Hindi Diwas 2026 and the sixth Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan at Navi Mumbai.
The Union Home Minister said that though India has many languages and dialects, the Indian sentiment and the voice of the nation must remain one. He said linguistic diversity is the strength of the country and Hindi can serve as an effective bridge of communication among the various Indian languages, thereby strengthening national unity. He also lauded Maharashtra for its multilingual culture.
On the occasion, eleven institutions and individuals were honoured for outstanding work and contributions in the field of the Official Language. A special commemorative issue of the Rajbhasha Department’s monthly magazine, Rajbhasha Bharati, centred on Vande Mataram, was and three books were also unveiled. The Bharati Multilingual Translation App was inaugurated and Bhasha Kunj, the country’s first data centre dedicated to Indian languages, was launched.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, Joydeep Chattopadhyay, a fifth-generation descendant of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, several Members of Parliament, scholars, litterateurs, educationists and senior officials were present at the event.
