Srinagar : The BIRAC E-YUVA Centre at the University of Kashmir recently hosted a national workshop titled “Beyond Laboratory: Transforming Scientific Ideas into Successful Ventures.” The event aimed to educate college students, graduates, and aspiring innovators about scientific entrepreneurship, equipping them with the necessary skills to convert laboratory research into market-oriented ventures.
During the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan highlighted the importance of integrating scientific research with innovation and entrepreneurship, advocating for the translation of scientific knowledge into practical solutions for real-world challenges. Dr Asif Amin, the Centre’s coordinator, provided insights into the Centre’s initiatives that promote student-led innovation in biotechnology and life sciences. Prof Ehtisham-ul-Haq, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, emphasized the need for students to explore opportunities beyond traditional academic paths. The workshop included four technical sessions focused on various aspects of entrepreneurship, including the ecosystem, transitioning from student to startup, and developing life-science enterprises. These sessions were led by experts Dr Bhavisha Wala and Dr Nadeem Shabir, who facilitated interactive discussions that offered participants practical insights into transforming scientific ideas into socially and commercially viable solutions. Established in 2025 with support from the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council, the E-YUVA Centre aims to nurture young innovators and foster problem-solving skills. Currently, it supports five fellowship teams comprising 19 fellows from various institutions in Kashmir and Ladakh, providing mentorship and research support while connecting them to the broader innovation ecosystem. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof Mahboob-ul-Hussain, Chief Coordinator of the Centre.
