Srinagar: Welcome to the grand theater of Jammu and Kashmir, where the ruling National Conference has called for a protest to restore statehood. Simple, right? Wrong. In J&K, political demands are a buffet—everyone grabs a plate and adds their own chaotic flavor.
Instead of moving forward, the political class is playing a multi-directional tug-of-war. The opposition isn’t against statehood, but they’ve decided to leap into a time machine, demanding the resurrection of the long-buried Articles 370 and 35A. It’s like demanding a vintage sports car before you’re even handed the keys to a basic sedan.
Meanwhile, the BJP preaches patience, advising everyone to leave the cosmic timing of statehood to the supreme wisdom of the Prime Minister. Not to be outdone, the fence-sitters are calling for “dialogue and consensus”—because why solve a crisis today when you can hold a lovely, long meeting about it next Tuesday?
When every leader pulls a different way, the public welfare chariot stays exactly where it is: stuck in the mud. But hey, as long as the wheels spin, the politicians get to claim they’re driving, the public gets exploited, and the theater stays open for another profitable season.
