Budgam|June 30: After months of delay, the tender for the repair of the main Chadoora Bridge over Doodhganga Nallah has finally been issued, bringing some relief to residents. However, locals have urged authorities to ensure immediate release of funds and early commencement of repair work.

The bridge serves as a crucial connectivity link between the Chadoora and Charar-i-Sharief Assembly constituencies and connects several key areas across Budgam, Pulwama, and Shopian districts.

Residents said the bridge is vital for the movement of patients, ambulances, heavy vehicles, and the general public, as it provides access to four Sub-District Hospitals, fire services, police stations, and other essential facilities.

They appealed to the MLAs of Chadoora and Charar-i-Sharief to ensure timely release of funds and issue necessary directions for the repair work. Residents also demanded immediate macadamisation of diversion routes to ease public inconvenience until the main bridge is restored.

At present, commuters are facing severe hardships due to the poor condition of alternate routes. One diversion passes through the Police Station Chadoora side, while the other runs via the Degree College Chadoora side. Both roads are in a dilapidated condition and riddled with potholes, making travel difficult, especially for ambulances, patients, and transport vehicles.

Residents have urged authorities to begin the bridge repair without further delay and ensure its speedy completion now that the tendering process has been initiated.

They also demanded urgent macadamisation of the Srinagar–Chadoora road and Chadoora–Lolipora road, saying both roads are in poor condition and require immediate attention.
