Jammu : The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has demonstrated its commitment to passenger service by successfully returning lost valuables in two notable incidents.
In the first case, a mobile phone belonging to Ashutosh Tiwari, a PhD scholar from Aligarh Muslim University, was recovered after he accidentally left it at Shalimar Garden during his visit to Srinagar. Following his report of the loss to the Station Manager at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, railway staff coordinated efforts between Srinagar and Katra to locate the phone, which was eventually returned to Tiwari on June 20. He expressed his gratitude for the prompt assistance provided by the railway authorities. In a separate incident, security personnel on board the Vande Bharat Express discovered an unattended black tourist bag. After conducting security checks, the bag was handed over to Ticket Checking Staff member Adil Ahmed, who promptly notified the Station Manager at Katra. The railway authorities made public announcements to locate the owner, who subsequently claimed the bag after verification. The bag contained important items, including tickets and cash, and the owner praised the railway staff for their honesty and efficiency. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal emphasized that maintaining passenger trust is essential to railway service, stating that a passenger’s satisfaction is the division’s greatest achievement. He highlighted that these incidents reflect the Indian Railways’ role as a supportive system that prioritizes the safety and security of passengers and their belongings. The Jammu Division also urged passengers to remain vigilant and to report any lost items to the nearest Station Manager or the Railway Helpline.
