Kupwara : In a streak towards covering all districts of both the UTs, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma along with Principal Census Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Kupwara, Shrikant BalasahebSuseTuesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex Kupwara to assess the progress of the ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO) being conducted under Census 2027 in the district.
During a strategic meeting in Kupwara, CPCO Amit Sharma emphasized the need for public vigilance against cyber fraudsters exploiting the ongoing Census 2027 to obtain sensitive information such as bank account and credit card details. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police and the Census Helpline at 1855, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in combating such threats. The meeting began with the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara providing an overview of the district’s preparedness for the Census. Amit Sharma commended the district’s performance in self-enumeration and information, education, and communication (IEC) activities. He stressed the critical need for accuracy in data collection, warning that even minor errors could significantly impact the quality of Census data and future policy decisions. He directed enumerators and supervisors to ensure thorough verification of all entries. Sharma described Census 2027 as the largest administrative and statistical exercise in the country, essential for planning and resource allocation. He instructed Charge Officers to conduct regular field inspections and random quality checks to ensure compliance with Census guidelines. Special attention was given to the inclusion of migratory and seasonal populations to accurately track migration patterns and gather information on eligible tribal individuals. The CPCO noted that the digital data collection method would enhance efficiency and improve the quality of the information gathered. The Principal Census Officer of Kupwara assured full administrative support for the Census operations and called for close monitoring of field activities to ensure timely completion. In a media briefing, Amit Sharma highlighted the progress of the House Listing Operations in Kupwara and urged the public in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to cooperate fully with Census officials, emphasizing that accurate Census data is vital for informed governance and equitable resource distribution. He reassured the public that all information collected is protected under the Census Act of 1948, ensuring confidentiality and non-disclosure to any external parties. The meeting was attended by various officials involved in the Census exercise, underscoring the collaborative effort required for its success.
