Srinagar : Police on Tuesday destroyed illegal cannabis and poppy cultivation during coordinated operations in Baramulla, Sopore and Anantnag districts.
Reports said that in Baramulla, police in coordination with local residents destroyed wild cannabis spread over approximately one kanal of state land at Check Jamal Mir, Palhalan. In Anantnag, a joint team comprising police, an Executive Magistrate and Agriculture Department officials detected illegal poppy cultivation in an orchard at Kapran, Verinag. The crop was destroyed on the spot and a case was registered for further investigation.
In Sopore, police and Excise officials destroyed wild cannabis growing over a considerable area in Tragpora under the jurisdiction of Police Post Watergam. Police said that operations are aimed at eliminating sources of narcotic substances and ensuring strict enforcement of the NDPS Act.
