- 540 Agniveers inducted into the Army after 24 weeks of training
Srinagar: Calling the Indian Army the nation’s “first hope” in times of crisis, General Officer Commanding (GOC), White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra on Saturday said the force embodies the trust, confidence and sense of security of millions of Indians and remains the country’s most dependable institution during war, terrorism and natural disasters.
Lt Gen Mishra was addressing the Attestation-cum-Passing-Out Parade of the seventh batch of Agniveers at the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regimental Centre in Rangreth, Srinagar, where 540 recruits formally joined the ranks of the Indian Army after completing 24 weeks of intensive military training.
Reviewing the parade, Lt Gen Mishra complimented the Agniveers for their immaculate turnout, synchronised drill movements and high standards of military bearing.
He also lauded the instructors and training staff for moulding the recruits into disciplined and combat-ready soldiers through months of rigorous physical training, tactical instruction and character-building exercises.
Addressing the newly attested soldiers, the White Knight Corps Commander said the Indian Army was far more than a force tasked with guarding the country’s borders.
“The Army of India is not only a force protecting the borders, but also a symbol of trust and security for the people of the country. Whether it is war, a terrorist attack or a natural disaster, the Army stands at the forefront. India’s first hope is the Army of India,” he said.
Reminding the recruits of the responsibility that comes with military service, Lt Gen Mishra said they were now custodians of the aspirations of millions of citizens.
“From today, you will not only have a rank on your shoulders, but also the hopes and trust of millions of Indians. Your bravery, determination and perseverance will be an inspiration for future generations,” he said.
The Corps Commander said the recruits were fortunate to be joining one of the Army’s most distinguished regiments, whose history was marked by exceptional courage, sacrifice and patriotism.
“You are becoming part of the JAKLI Regiment after undergoing difficult training for 24 weeks. The history of our regiment and the Indian Army has been written in golden words through acts of bravery and supreme sacrifice. I am confident that all of you will take this glorious legacy to new heights,” he said.
Referring to the regiment’s ethos, he said, “Our motto is not only to sacrifice our lives, but to live our lives for the nation.”
Lt Gen Mishra also acknowledged the contribution of the families of the Agniveers, thanking parents and guardians for encouraging their children to join the Army.
“I congratulate and thank your families for supporting the Indian Army and motivating you to serve the nation as Agniveers,” he said.
In a symbolic gesture, dignitaries present at the event honoured the parents of the recruits with the Gaurav Padak, recognising their sacrifice and contribution to national service.
The solemn attestation ceremony saw the Agniveers take the oath of allegiance, reaffirming their commitment to duty, courage and selfless service. The event reached an emotional crescendo as the young soldiers marched past the reviewing officer with confidence and pride.
Lt Gen Mishra offered prayers for the recruits’ future and successful military careers.
“I pray to God, Allah, Waheguru and Buddha that your future, your health and your journey in the Army of India will be unparalleled. My best wishes to all of you,” he said.
The parade, conducted with full military tradition and grandeur against the backdrop of the Kashmir, marked the transformation of the young recruits into soldiers ready to serve the nation.
Senior military officers, civil dignitaries and family members of the recruits attended the ceremony.
