New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday informed the Supreme Court that its decision to cancel NEET-UG 2026 and transfer the probe into the alleged paper leak to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) underscored the seriousness with which the agency and the Centre were addressing the integrity of the examination process.
The NTA said a series of major reforms have been implemented to strengthen the integrity, transparency, and security of the NEET examination process following controversies over alleged irregularities in the past two years.
In an affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court, the NTA outlined the timeline concerning the constitution and functioning of the High-Powered Committee formed in compliance with the apex court’s directions.
The agency informed the court that among all major examinations conducted by it, NEET-UG 2026 was the only one still being held in Pen and Paper Test (PPT) mode, primarily in line with the scheme prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Medical Commission (NMC).
“All other major NTA examinations are already conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode,” the affidavit stated.
The NTA further told the court that the High-Powered Committee had specifically recommended shifting NEET-UG from PPT to CBT mode, along with introducing multi-session and multi-stage examinations.
According to the agency, the transition would be implemented from the next examination cycle in consultation with the ministry concerned.
The affidavit was filed in connection with petitions pending before the Supreme Court over alleged irregularities in NEET examinations and broader examination reforms.
