Several patients admitted to SKIMS, District Hospital; schools asked to remain vigilant amid rising cases
G’bal : The Health Department in Ganderbal district has issued an official alert following a rise in viral meningitis cases reported from several villages in Kangan block.
According to a communication issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ganderbal, cases have surfaced in Bela Wusan, Haripora, Aigipora and adjoining areas.Officials said several patients have been admitted to various hospitals, including SKIMS Srinagar, District Hospital Ganderbal and SKIMS Soura, for treatment and observation.
On May 12 alone, three patients were admitted to District Hospital Ganderbal, while four others from different parts of the district were referred to SKIMS Soura, officials said, adding that authorities fear the number of cases may rise further. The Rapid Response Team (RRT), along with local health staff, has visited the affected areas and launched awareness and preventive measures.
Health officials also inspected schools attended by the affected children and directed school administrations to remain vigilant and immediately report any symptomatic cases.
The affected students are reported to be studying in different government and private educational institutions across Kangan and Ganderbal areas. The CMO has urged the Chief Education Officer to instruct all Zonal Education Officers and Heads of Institutions to closely monitor the situation and promptly report any symptoms among students.
Meanwhile, health authorities advised people not to panic and urged them to seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms such as fever, severe headache, vomiting, neck stiffness or sensitivity to light.
