Awantipora : Police on Friday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers and eradicated illicit poppy cultivation through a series of targeted operations in Kulgam district.
In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that during a special naka checking at Naibasti Qaimoh one Zahid Ahmad Bhat was arrested and 5 grams of heroin-like contraband was recovered from his possession . In a separate incident at Waripora, police intercepted a vehicle driven by Arshid Ahmad Lone, seizing 2 grams of heroin-like contraband and arresting him, along with the vehicle used in the crime. Additionally, during naka checking at Amanpora, police apprehended Mohd Sadam, recovering 132.7 grams of charas powder from his possession. In another operation, police arrested Adil Nisar at Tehsil Park Kulgam, seizing 579.3 grams of ganja and 2.4 grams of heroin-like contraband. Furthermore, acting on credible inputs police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation on land owned by Shahnawaz Ahmad Shan in Nowpora. All individuals involved have been arrested, and cases have been registered under relevant legal sections, with further investigations underway. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to dismantle the narcotics network and safeguarding the community from the drug menace, appealing people therein to share information on drug peddling while ensuring confidentiality.
